How COVID-impacted residents in our region emerge in 2021 from an evictions crisis, continued unemployment and growing food insecurity depends on our advocacy for changing the status quo. We have our work cut out for us. Our mission is clear: to promote healthy, sustainable and
equitable communities that meet the diverse housing needs of Northern
Virginia's low and moderate income residents; and the availability of quality housing that is affordable is foundational to that outcome.
Developing good public policy that creates opportunities for affordable housing in our community is a marathon, not a sprint. Throughout our 15 years, NVAHA's regional coalition-building and informed advocacy have leveraged our housing work for maximum impact. Elected officials and policy-makers turn to our organization to learn about proven strategies that address the challenges of rising housing cost burdens and shrinking affordability in Northern Virginia.
In 2020, policy and advocacy organizations like NVAHA took a back seat, financially, to providing vulnerable residents with direct services - and rightly so. But as Northern Virginia emerges from the pandemic, a strong voice to maintain the call for change will be needed. NVAHA will continue to be a leading advocate to address inequitable land use systems and the power imbalance in community decision-making that too often excludes minority residents in our civic discourse. However, our ability to continue this work depends on your financial support. We are grateful for those who have supported us in the past. Now we ask you to join the effort to hold ourselves and our elected leaders accountable to our goals and donate to NVAHA.
