A Foundational Shift

What to Know: According to exit polls, the Republican Party lost ground with white men, while gaining new votes from Blacks, Hispanics and white women. ([link removed] ) That’s the opposite of what we’ve been told would happen.

The TPPF Take: There’s a new working class coalition that is multi-racial, multi-ethnic and conservative.

“The new coalition rejects the premise of the New York Times’ 1619 Project, the grand critique of America, which says the U.S. is fundamentally racist and a real-life dystopia,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “They know better. It’s the country they or their parents or their grandparents came to, and in many cases, fled to. The America they experience is one of opportunity and freedom.”

Special Needs

What to Know: Texas schools still failing special education students, a federal review finds. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: Special needs students deserve the same quality of education other Texas students receive, and school systems must work to ensure families have options available to them.

“My childhood involved times of frustration, disappointment, guilt, and depression because of my undiagnosed autism,” says TPPF Liberty Leadership Council member Jason Heye. “I went on to earn a graduate degree in special education. What I learned in the classroom—both as a child struggling with autism and as a grad student learning how to intervene on behalf of kids like me—is that special education is not like regular classroom teaching. Therefore, we must not treat it as such.”

Primary Care Burnout

What to Know: The pandemic is further stressing primary care doctors, increasing physician burnout. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: Direct Primary Care could help.

“Primary care is in a state of crisis characterized by physician burnout, outsized patient panels, increased administrative burden, reduced time spent with patients, low reimbursement, and a shrinking workforce,” says TPPF’s David Balat. “By reducing administrative burden and allowing primary care providers to spend more time with patients, Direct Primary Care addresses many of these challenges.”
