What do rivers mean to you? [[link removed]][[link removed]]

Dear John

If you’re anything like us, you’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving a little
differently tomorrow. Travel plans may have been cancelled, you might not have
family around, or you might be bundled up, eating outside. Regardless of your
plans, this year will be a unique celebration.

In the midst of all the uncertainty of 2020, there is still plenty to be
thankful for. One of the things I’m most thankful for is the support rivers have given me.

Rivers come in many forms: the physical bodies of water that give us clean water
to drink and wash our hands; the habitats supporting fish and wildlife; the
opportunities for recreation and fun in the outdoors; and “rivers” as a metaphor
for all of the things in our lives that give us peace and hope.

Whether it’s been hiking by a river with my family, riding my bike on a
beautiful country road, or relaxing in the hammock in my backyard, these moments
of calm and peace have been critical to my personal well-being. All of these
rivers, both real and metaphorical, help me be a better dad and a better
husband, and they help me focus on the critical work we do at American Rivers.

This Thanksgiving, we put together a video with some of our staff
[[link removed]] , highlighting the rivers in our lives, and how important they’ve been in 2020. We hope you give it a look
[[link removed]] , and think about all of the rivers that have mattered to you this year.

And please come back on Giving Tuesday as we give back to rivers.
[[link removed]] Thanks to some generous donors, we have a 1-for-1 match happening, and anything
up to $20,000 on that day will be matched. That’s $40,000 that directly goes to
protecting our rivers.

Your support is critical to our work, THANK YOU for all that you do. We couldn’t do our work without you.
