Dear John,

Giving Tuesday is all about harnessing the collective power of giving to transform our communities. At GLSEN, we know all about that – for 30 years the GLSEN chapter network has brought local stakeholders together to create safer, more affirming K-12 schools for every LGBTQ+ youth across the country.

GLSEN chapters — from Southern Maine to Hawaii, Washington State to Tampa Bay, Merced to Richmond — are mobilizing hundreds of local leaders in support of the more than 8,000,000 estimated LGBTQ+ students in our communities They make sure that these students are safe and respected and can learn and thrive when they walk into school each day. In the wake of the attacks on them over the last four years, there is much harm to be reversed.

The GLSEN chapter network is on it! Here are just a few powerful examples of the transformative work taking place across the country from the last year alone:

  • Like many other chapters during the pandemic, Southern Maine made its student and educator programs fully virtual, but also took the time and care to mail rainbow graduation tassels, shoe laces, and masks to students and GSA advisors.

  • Alabama collaborated with several other organizations to hold the first-ever LGBTQ+ Town Hall with a sitting Alabama senator, Doug Jones.

  • Washington State has been hard at work bringing much-needed affirming books to 120 Rainbow Libraries in schools throughout the state.

  • A small chapter in a deeply red state, Springfield, Missouri has reached increasingly isolated LGBTQ+ youth through weekly virtual meetings, where students share highs and lows, play online games, and enjoy music and art therapy.

Give to the GLSEN network today, and you’ll support this vital local work directly. Every penny given will go right to our grassroots network, to support all the ways that our chapters fight for LGBTQ+ students and a better future for us all.

Thank you in advance for your support.

In solidarity and respect,
GLSEN’s Chapter Leaders
