Let’s stop Kalama Methanol!

John,
Last week, Cowlitz County issued the shorelines permit for the world’s largest fracked gas-to-methanol refinery, proposed on the shores of the Columbia River in Kalama, Washington. Now, the Washington Department of Ecology has less than 30 days to approve or deny the massive refinery, which would use more gas than all of Washington’s gas-fired power plants combined and would become the state’s single largest source of carbon pollution.
Tell Dept. of Ecology: Deny the Shorelines Permit for the Kalama methanol refinery. [[link removed]]
Residents throughout the region have submitted thousands of public comments and petitions opposing the refinery. Earlier this year, Governor Inslee publicly announced his opposition to the project, citing “the dwindling window for [climate] action and the significant methane leakage associated with gas production.” Meanwhile, Cowlitz County is continuing to move this project forward based on a deeply flawed evaluation that fails to account for the project’s climate impacts.
It is unacceptable for Washington to permit new fossil fuel facilities that lock our region into decades of expanded gas supply based on flawed evaluations and outdated science. Send a message to Ecology to protect our shorelines, climate, and communities. [[link removed]]
The Kalama methanol refinery, proposed by Northwest Innovation Works, would emit more than one million tons of greenhouse gases from the smokestacks alone, and emit up to seven million tons when upstream methane leakage is considered.

Together, we can encourage a clean, healthy energy future and protect our state from more fracked gas!
