While 2020 has had its ups and downs, LEAF’s commitment to advancing gender equality for all has been unwavering. Since March, the gendered impacts of the COVID-19 have driven home the importance of LEAF’s work, highlighting the urgent need to advocate for the most vulnerable, especially those greatly affected by the pandemic.  

We’ve been working tirelessly for 35 years, advocating for the substantive equality of women and girls – but we still have far to go. 

This year we fought for pension equality; women and children victimized by intoxicated offenders; Indigenous women facing systemic discrimination in the criminal justice system; child support equality; and better access to justice for women labelled with intellectual disabilities in sexual assault trials.  

We won’t stop until there is a realization of substantive gender equality for all in Canada.
