Friend,

You might not like using single-use plastics, but they're almost impossible to avoid -- especially at the grocery store. Aisle after aisle, food comes encased in single-use plastic packaging.

And all that plastic waste is piling up at a record pace in our landfills, our communities and our environment.

That's why U.S. PIRG and our national network have launched a new campaign calling on Whole Foods to eliminate single-use plastic packaging from its stores -- and we've set a goal of raising $15,000 this Giving Tuesday to help fund this effort.

Will you make a Giving Tuesday gift to help us move Whole Foods beyond single-use plastic packaging, Friend?

Why Whole Foods? It's true that the company has led the industry in curbing its plastic waste in the past.[1]

But a recent report gave Whole Foods an "F" for its plastic waste policies -- in part due to its failure to embrace reusable packaging and recycled content. Whole Foods is lagging behind other chains like Walmart and Kroger when it comes to leadership on plastic waste reduction.[2]

We know that Whole Foods can take the lead on tackling plastic again -- especially if the company's leadership hears from shoppers and consumers. And if Whole Foods commits to getting rid of single-use plastic packaging at its stores, it can help promote an industry-wide shift toward more sustainable packaging. That means less waste headed to our landfills, littering our communities, and polluting our environment.

Our national network has sent a letter to Whole Foods CEO John Mackey calling for a comprehensive plan to eliminate single-use plastic packaging at Whole Foods. Thousands of supporters like you also added their names in support. Now we're organizing consumers across the country to amplify that message even more.

But to keep our campaign going strong, and to support all of our work to cut down plastic waste, we're asking for your support this Giving Tuesday.

Your Giving Tuesday contribution can help us continue our campaign to eliminate single-use plastic packaging at Whole Foods.

And our campaigns don't stop with Whole Foods. We know there's more work to be done when it comes to cutting down on our plastic waste.

U.S. PIRG advocates have worked closely have worked closely with federal lawmakers to introduce legislation that would ban some of the worst single-use plastics, and would shift more financial responsibility for recycling onto the companies that make plastic items designed to be tossed after just once use.[3]

Our national network is also building support for legislation across the country to ban the worst single-use plastic items, such as polystyrene foam takeout containers. In 2019, our partners in Maryland championed the bill that made their state one of the first to ban foam takeout containers. We know with your support, we can add even more states to the list.

Help us win even more policies to reduce plastic waste across the country with your Giving Tuesday gift today.
