Friend, It is Giving Tuesday. A day when we look at the problems in our society and say, "I can help a bit to solve that one." There are a lot of challenges on my mind this year. COVID-19 continues to take the lives of too many. Hunger is growing. Emotional and mental stress hurts many. These are worldwide problems. But, one problem on my mind is uniquely American: gun violence. We lose the life of 100 people every day in this country. And in the last 9 months, we’ve seen this decades-long health crisis accelerate. And that’s why I’m thinking about the next year. It will take strong action to address gun suicide through extreme risk orders. We will need a powerful coalition to halt illegal firearm sales. And throughout it all, we’ll need to remember those who we couldn’t save from this crisis. This Giving Tuesday your donation to CeaseFirePA can ensure a safer Pennsylvania. Emotional and financial distress, along with so many first time gun owners, are putting more than ever at risk for gun suicide. We need an Extreme Risk Law so family members can save the lives of their loved ones. Illegal firearms are being used in gun crimes across the Commonwealth. But law enforcement struggles to stop the sale of weapons. We must ensure guns stay in their owners hands through Lost & Stolen reporting requirements. Doctors and nurses treat gunshot victims every day. Faith leaders and survivors counsel those who’ve lost someone to guns. Community groups try to heal the community. Each needs our support. With so many problems surrounding us, I’m asking you this #GivingTuesday to give a little to help address this uniquely American one. Together, we can save lives.
