The Supreme Court's December session will be headlined by cases involving the Trump administrationâs efforts to exclude unauthorized immigrants from the Census and a pair of cases related to immunities for foreign governments.
Here are some of the upcoming cases we're watching:
* Trump v. New York concerns the Trump administrationâs plan to exclude unauthorized immigrants from the state-by-state breakdown of apportionment data used to allocate seats in the House of Representatives.
* Nestle USA, Inc. v. Doe (consolidated with Cargill, inc. v. Doe) deals with whether foreigners can sue U.S.-based corporations under the Alien Tort Statute alleging violations of international human rights laws.

** Bidenâs Plan to Restrict âAssault Weaponsâ

President-elect Joe Biden indicated his administration will pursue legislation to ban the production of âassault weaponsâ and will aim to give owners of such firearms the choice of selling it to the government through an optional buyback program or registering it with the federal government.

Depending on how the above provisions are implemented, projections suggest the taxes could apply to 20 million AR- and AK-style rifles in addition to 150 million ammunition magazines according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and could cost up to $34 billion based on a Washington Free Beacon analysis.
