John,

It's Giving Tuesday, and I'm writing to ask you to make an urgent gift to help us protect refugees and other families who are struggling to survive.

The funds we raise before midnight tonight will be tripled by a generous donor and put to immediate use. I hope you will donate now to have three times the impact.

John, in many of the places where we work, refugees and displaced families are facing a triple threat — war, hunger and COVID-19.

In Syria, the virus is spreading undetected in refugee camps where it is impossible to social distance.

In Yemen, people already suffering from the largest humanitarian disaster in the world are now forced to grapple with yet another devastating emergency.

I know you agree with me when I say it’s our moral obligation to be there for these mothers and fathers and their children. I hope you will make a Giving Tuesday gift to have it tripled. Any amount will make a real impact.

Together we can help mitigate the spread of this virus, protect vulnerable communities and care for the people affected by COVID-19. We can expand our innovative work treating malnourished children and continue our critical response to illnesses that disproportionately affect children, like cholera and malaria.

And we can help more refugee families who've fled war and persecution to recover and rebuild their lives.

John, leading the team here at the IRC has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every day, I am humbled by the resilience and courage of the people we serve and the dedication and expertise of our staff members around the world. And this work that we do, helping people facing the world’s worst humanitarian crises, has deep meaning for me.

My mother was also a refugee. When she fled the Nazis during WWII, she became a displaced person and was targeted because of her religion. It was because of the kindness of strangers that her life was saved.

I owe my life to that stranger as well.

During this unprecedented time, we need more people willing to stand up for displaced people and refugees. Please make a gift today to triple your impact and help us reach more of the world’s most vulnerable people.
