Friend, It’s finally happening! The U.S. House will vote on the MORE Act this week – it’s the first time a bill to deschedule marijuana has ever been voted on by a chamber of Congress. Help us make history by urging your Representative to vote for the MORE Act to end the federal war on marijuana and repair the harms of prohibition. The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment & Expungement (MORE) Act would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level and begin to undo the damage of its prohibition. It would expunge marijuana convictions, reduce marijuana sentences, and reinvest in communities hit hard by drug prohibition, which has disproportionately impacted Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people and low-income communities. Momentum for reform is stronger than ever before. An overwhelming majority of the public supports legalizing marijuana. And after the recent election victories, 35 states and D.C. now have medical marijuana laws and 15 states and D.C. have legalized marijuana for adult use. Polling also shows that a majority of voters support the MORE Act and the bill’s social and racial justice provisions. And dozens of internationally-recognized musicians, actors, artists, athletes, influencers and advocates are joining us in urging the bill’s passage. Despite strong consensus for change, the continued enforcement of marijuana prohibition laws is responsible for more than half a million arrests in the U.S. every year. The time has come for federal reform and we need to ensure Congress acts. Take action to help us pass the MORE Act in the House this week. In addition to being a step toward marijuana justice, the MORE Act will help alleviate public health challenges caused by COVID-19 spreading in jails and prisons by reducing the number of people who are incarcerated. It’s critical that this bill advances right now. With your support, DPA has led on this groundbreaking bill since the beginning. It’s been a game-changer that has shifted the conversation about how to legalize marijuana in a way that’s fair and that centers social equity and racial justice. You helped us pass the MORE Act in the House Judiciary Committee last year and now we’re counting on you again to pass it in the full House. Please take action so we can take another historic step toward ending the federal prohibition on marijuana.
