Subject: Democrats’ lawsuit

To: Sara Coburn

September 12, 2019

John,

The Democrats are suing me. That’s right, the Democratic Party of Texas is suing me because I blew the whistle on a quid pro quo scheme offered by the Republican Speaker of the Texas House.

Since Texas Democrats cannot win on the basis of their ideas, they hope to destroy me financially. I need your help to stop them [[link removed]].

Back in June, House Speaker Dennis Bonnen invited me to a meeting at the Texas Capitol. As I’ve reported, Bonnen offered me official state actions – providing the press credentials his team denied to our reporters – if I helped him out politically. He wanted me to refrain from spending money against him and instead target a specific list of Democrat and Republican lawmakers.

I sent Speaker Bonnen a letter specifically detailing his offer and rejecting it. There was no way I would trade my integrity, and I certainly wasn’t going to let myself and our organization be the victim of whatever falsehoods he would spin.

And he did try to spin some this summer. Which is when I announced I had recorded the entire meeting.

Enter the Democrats and their lawsuit.

The Democrats want the recording for their political purposes, and they are suing me and my family to try to get it. They are suing me in Democrat-run Travis County, where every judge is a Democrat. We have to fight — and fight hard.

So what’s the basis for their lawsuit? The Democrats are suing me because I was invited to a meeting in which House Speaker Dennis Bonnen offered an unethical scheme, which I rejected. Some lawsuit, eh?

Bonnen wanted me to be his victim, and I fought back. By fighting back, the Democrats want to make me their victim; that won’t happen ... but only with your help.

While the Democrats are suing me personally, the board of directors of Empower Texans are allowing the organization’s legal counsel to represent me. This is where I need your help.

The lawsuit filed by the Democrats must be fought, and won, if we’re to stop the crony establishment in Austin. My intention is to fight the Democrats and kick their Donkey butts to the judicial curb.

Sara, I need your help to do it. [[link removed]]

Would you make a special contribution of $25, $50 [[link removed]], or $100 [[link removed]] to our legal defense fund? Without your support, it’s going to be impossible for me to carry on this fight.

We must stop the Democrats abuse of the courts. We must stop the weaponization of the judicial system by Democrats.

Because the Democrats are suing me in liberal Travis County, it’s guaranteed we will have an uphill battle in the Democrat-run district courts. This means we must be ready to fight them on appeal, all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.

The Democrats have massive resources available and have the entire judiciary in Travis County on their team. But I have something stronger: the truth, combined with friends like you.

We will fight. And, with your help, we will win.

For Texas,

Michael Quinn Sullivan

CEO, Empower Texans

P.S. Your donation today [[link removed]] of $25, $50 [[link removed]], or even $100 [[link removed]] is needed so we can continue to stand for truth and integrity in governance and beat the Democrats’ frivolous lawsuit.
