Friend,
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, the annual day of giving after Thanksgiving,
and as a nonprofit news-gathering organization, Giving Tuesday is one of
the most important days of the year.
And this year, it's even more important than usual.
You see, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we immediately saw an increase
in the number of people canceling their monthly sustaining donations.
Meanwhile, the pandemic made it more difficult than ever to do our work,
forcing us to transition to a virtual newsroom and creating new
expenses.
But at the same time, our website traffic skyrocketed as people
desperately sought out accurate information about the virus, the
government's response, and what they could do to take action. Now, going
into a long, dark winter, and with COVID-19 cases once again spiking, we
need to be ready to step up to this challenge.
As a Common Dreams reader, you know how irreplaceable our journalism is.
We cover stories the corporate media won't. We inform and inspire action
on the most important problems facing the country, from the climate
crisis to systemic racism to economic inequality.
We focus on the people-powered movements driving change over insider
pundits representing the status quo. We are not afraid to make enemies
(and we've made more than a few).
With your help, we can continue to provide the progressive, nonprofit
news coverage free from corporate influence that you count on us for.
But in these times, it is especially critical that we hit our Giving
Tuesday fundraising goal of $15,000. That's why we are starting a day
early to kick-start the effort.
Please make a Giving Tuesday donation to help support the journalism you
count on from Common Dreams.
