Dear John,

It’s state budget time again.
Every two years, Wisconsin’s governor must submit a state budget to the legislature at the beginning of the year. This begins the process of determining how the state will spend its money and what programs and priorities our decision makers will have for Wisconsin.

Gov. Tony Evers, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, and members of their administration will be holding an important listening session on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. to hear what you would like to see the governor prioritize in his 2021-22 state budget.

The state budget should reflect Wisconsin’s strong conservation values. A pro-conservation budget and policy agenda should protect public health and natural resources. It should discourage polluters from cutting corners and exposing our air, water, and land to more toxic pollution. With all the challenges COVID-19 brings with it, it is more important now than ever before that decision makers hear what your priorities are for Wisconsin’s future.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters is encouraging Gov. Evers to make clean, safe drinking water for everyone living in Wisconsin a top priority. It’s critical to expand the funding, rulemaking, and implementation of strong drinking water standards. We also recommend continuing to implement bold and equitable policy aimed at achieving 100 percent carbon neutral electricity by 2050, and funding initiatives that help local governments meet their clean energy goals.
