John—On Wednesday, the Senate is scheduled to consider Nathan Simington, a corporate-backed telecom lawyer who wants to turn the FCC into the online speech police, for a spot on the FCC. This appointment would make it exponentially harder to quickly win back net neutrality under the new administration.
But there are a few Senators who we believe that, with enough pressure, will try to block this vote. Please call now and tell key Senators to oppose Nathan Simington for the FCC (and if you’ve already called please call again!).~Caitlin, Fight for the Future
John,
The Senate is considering a nominee to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) who is even worse than Ajit Pai, and if we don’t act fast he might be confirmed.1
Call key Senators right now and tell them to block the worst FCC nomination in history.
Nathan Simington is a telecom lawyer who had a direct hand in drafting the Trump administration’s blatantly unconstitutional executive order that would blow up Section 230 and essentially turn the FCC into online speech police.2 He is also supported by the same Big Telecom companies that lobbied to kill net neutrality.3
And aside from this attack on free speech, Simington has almost no relevant experience for the position.
But here’s the good news: We really do have a chance at blocking this terrible nominee. It’s often hard to win when it comes to the Senate, but because he is so unqualified, Simington doesn’t have a ton of support. If we can get just a couple of Republicans to signal their opposition, we can keep Simington off the FCC.
Making this call is really easy. Here’s what you do:
-
Visit our simple call page and enter your phone number.
-
We’ll give you a call and when you answer we’ll connect you to Senate offices.
-
Tell them you’re calling to oppose the confirmation of telecom lawyer Nathan Simington to the FCC because he is unqualified and supports online censorship.
-
Hit the star (*) key and we’ll connect you to another key office.
That’s it!
Stopping Simington’s confirmation is absolutely critical to protecting basic rights and winning back net neutrality. Take a couple of minutes and make the call now.
Thanks,
Caitlin at Fight for the Future
