Nov 30, 2020

Greetings! We hope you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. In this week’s Agenda, we focus on Heritage’s leadership in the fight for election integrity. Our top COVID-19 medical adviser shows what must be done to protect lives now that coronavirus cases are spiking again. And Heritage’s resident expert on socialism, Dr. Lee Edwards, tells the story of what happened to three countries that tried socialism and then rejected it. You can find all this, plus information about Heritage webinars, podcasts, and more, in The Agenda.

Heritage Leads the Way in the Fight for Election Integrity
At the start of 2020, The Heritage Foundation named election integrity as one of its four key areas of focus. Even we couldn’t have predicted how much our work would be needed. Heritage is one of the only sources of credible, factual information on election fraud, which is why our experts were interviewed by the press more than 320 times and why our Election Fraud Database saw traffic climb 1,000% after Nov. 3. You can read all about our impact on this vital issue here.

Controlling COVID Means Making These Crucial Changes
With coronavirus cases surging across the country, what can be done to contain its deadly toll? Heritage visiting policy analyst Dr. Kevin Pham says the first step is to protect those who are most vulnerable: senior citizens in nursing homes. “CDC data shows there has been an increase of nearly 1,000 COVID-related deaths in nursing homes from September to October,” Pham writes. He urges policymakers to focus on the three ways to keep COVID-19 out of these facilities. “Anything else, especially now, would be unconscionable,” he writes. Read what Pham recommends doing.

Three Case Studies in How Socialism Fails
Socialism’s rise in popularity in the U.S. is a sure sign of historical ignorance, given the number of times it has spectacularly failed around the world. Dr. Lee Edwards, Heritage’s distinguished fellow in conservative thought, focuses on three cases that aren’t so well known. “Israel, India, and the United Kingdom all adopted socialism as an economic model following World War II,” Edwards writes. At first, it seemed to work. Then disaster struck. It was only after these countries abandoned socialism that they started to see strong, sustained, widespread growth. Read about what happened in each of these countries, and why their lessons are so important.
