Team, It’s a victory for our country that Donald Trump and his cruel administration will soon be out of the White House, team. But make no mistake: The Republican party and the corrupt special interest allies that supported him will still be around — ready to push back against any progress we try to make. So it’s time for our movement to gear up for a fight to overcome their opposition and finally deliver transformative change that will make a real impact in people’s lives. There’s no time to waste when it comes to guaranteeing health care, passing humane immigration reform, boldly taking on climate change, fighting for racial justice, and creating an economy that works for everyone — not just the wealthy and well-connected.
As an organizer, I know that bold, transformative change doesn’t happen overnight or by itself. We make it happen — and we do that by building a people-first movement and laying the foundation for our critical organizing work in the weeks and months ahead. Some people in this country might think that defeating Donald Trump means our work is over — we aren’t those people. The reality is that our work is only more important now. We not only need to reverse the damage Trump has done — on health care, the environment, immigration, equality, and the economy — but we also need to make transformative changes that quickly make life better for people across America. So while we will all breathe a little easier on January 20th, we must remain committed to our ongoing fight and be prepared to take on those who try to stop our efforts to ensure that every single person in this country has the health care, education, and clean air and water that they not only need but deserve.
