A new NPR piece claims that “The 2020 presidential election is not even close to the situation in the 2000 presidential election.” The reason why? In 2000, only one state, Florida, was in dispute while this time around, multiple states are being contested.
We do know that Ted Cruz, one of the members of the legal team that helped give George W. Bush the election in 2000, is now backing Trump’s attempt to steal the election in 2020.
The good news is that we can stop them. So far there has been zero evidence of the kind of voter fraud Trump and his allies are alleging. Joe Biden has already been congratulated on his win by multiple world leaders. It would be tough for the Republicans to keep Trump in the White House now.
Tough, but not impossible. Speaking of his successful legal win for President Bush in 2000, Cruz said, “It went twice to the Florida Supreme Court. It went twice to the U.S. Supreme Court. It took 36 days to resolve, and we got an answer. I would expect a similar process to play out here.”
Cruz wants another court battle like the one he won before. Trump wants one too. And now, according to the New York Times, Cruz is even suggesting that “the matter might not be resolved until the members of the Electoral College [meet] to vote in mid-December.”
Please, friend, there’s no way we can let this drag out that long. Every day that goes by is another chance for the wily legal minds of the GOP to come up with a scheme to steal the election. We need to be prepared for anything they throw at us -- and right now, we’re not. Though we’ve had a few incredibly generous donors, the vast majority of Democrats are not giving -- and we need all hands on deck to stop 2020 from becoming 2000.
