All eyes are on Georgia right now because of the runoffs coming up for the two Senate seats. Our eyes are on Georgia for another reason -

Georgia leads the nation in maternal mortality. [[link removed]]

As if that’s not devastating enough, it is 49th in infant mortality.

In Georgia, we support proposed changes in licensing to allow midwives that meet international education requirements because we know they will play a key role in preventing maternal deaths. More than 60% of maternal deaths are preventable and changes to the maternity care system as well as addressing racial inequalities will help Georgia save more mothers and infants.

The truth is, friend, while Georgia may be on everyone’s radar this month, as soon as the next legislative session begins, many people will move on to other issues. But Georgia will still be leading the nation in maternal deaths.

And if it’s not Georgia, it will be Louisiana. Or Indiana.

The maternal healthcare crisis is urgent in Georgia and across the entire country. That’s why we’re tracking the Momnibus Act, 9 bills in January alone - to try to push for better and longer-term health care for pregnant people and moms. We want moms to have more health care options and we want to break the cycle of systemic racism embedded in health care systems.

We’re raising $5,000 between now and the end of Giving Tuesday so we can train more advocates in Georgia and across the country. This is not a state issue any more than it is a national issue and we’re prepared to work at every level to push for change.

Will you help us reach our goal by becoming a recurring donor during this campaign? [[link removed]]

Thank you, friend.
