Dear John,

This Thanksgiving, we at Public Discourse are all extremely grateful for you, our readers. 2020 has been a difficult year for our nation and our world, but we are so glad that we have been able to go through it together.

This year has seen a global pandemic, race riots, economic devastation, and further splintering of our already divided nation. But this is not a time for despair. As Yuval Levin has argued, “What’s required of each of us is devotion to the work we do with others in the service of a common aspiration, and therefore devotion to the institutions we compose and inhabit."

We have lived through decades of attacks on the human person, the family, just politics, good education, and a healthy economy. It is our duty to arm ourselves with the best arguments to stand up for the truth. That’s our mission: to provide you with the best, most rigorous, and most accessible arguments about the most pressing issues of our day.

Public Discourse will never compromise on the fundamental principles that make a thriving and free society possible. But we can’t do this alone. We write today asking that you help us continue this important work by donating to our end-of-year matching campaign. If you donate before December 31, your gift will be doubled, thanks to the generosity of Witherspoon Institute Trustee Michael Maibach and other anonymous donors.

Your contribution will make it possible for Public Discourse to continue defending the truth. Together, we can build a society that gives every person the chance to live the good life.

Yours,
