A lot of folks don’t realize just how much Gab has had to build on our own to exist on the internet. We’ve been banned by 25+ app stores, hosting providers, email services, payment processors, banks, ecommerce services, and more. Most tech startups have the luxury of being able to use third-party services to operate. We don’t.

Here is a small list of the tools we had to build our own version of to operate:

-Gab Social
-Gab Hosting (our own servers)
-Gab Email (to send emails to you)
-Gab Shop (our ecommerce store)
-Gab PRO (our payment processing engine)
-Gab News (our self-hosted blog)
-Gab Trends (our news aggregator)
-Dissenter (our web browser)
-Gab Chat (encrypted chat service)
+several more I can’t list for security reasons

We built all of this and more with a handful of engineers funded by this community. It was A LOT of work (four years worth,) but now Gab is the most resilient alt tech platform on the internet.

When it comes to alternative social media, I think GAB has the most potential to compete with Facebook because of the “look & feel” of the layout and styling as well as the many, many levels of censorship firewalls the owner has put into place. Of course you can still find me on Parler, MeWe and Telegram, but for those (like me) who are most used to the Facebook layout and styling and yet where free speech still exists, GAB is the place to be.
