John,
Did you know that Amazon is the biggest player in the book industry? It sells the most books, owns Kindle, Audible, and Goodreads, and is even a major publisher.
And now Amazon is refusing to sell books to libraries—and even trying to get other publishers to stop selling books to libraries—just to maximize their profits.
We’re launching a new campaign to defend the essential access to knowledge and information that libraries provide by building direct pressure on Amazon to end practices like prohibiting libraries from buying its ebooks and audiobooks.1,2
Can you chip in to defend libraries against Amazon?
We’re also pushing for policies that require all books on the market, whatever their form, to be made available at a fair rate to libraries. In the age of disinformation, we can’t let Amazon supplant libraries or threaten the literacy of the next generation.
With states returning to lockdown, digital lending is the only way many low income people can access books. Even after the pandemic, ebooks and audiobooks will continue to get more popular. We must fight against a future where books are only available to those who can afford to pay Amazon. But we need your support to stand up to Amazon.
DONATE NOW
Amazon can afford to hire the best manipulators money can buy. Their assault on libraries isn’t so simple as denying them Amazon products. They are also releasing targeted data to other book publishers to encourage them to restrict library purchases of their books as well.3
Whether the battle is psychological or legislative, we are here to stand up for libraries. We hope, if you can, you will make a donation today.
Stay well, and well-informed.
Lia & the team at ❤️Fight
