Good Morning,
Donald Trump recently stated "homelessness is
hurting real estate prestige; will destroy cities."
He went on to state that the homeless are living on
"our best highways, our best streets, our best entrances to
building".
His solution is even more disturbing than his out
of touch comment.?
His solution is to send in the police to gather
(arrest) the homeless, for doing nothing more than being
homeless and moving them into a federally run "camp".
The federally run "camps" along our nation's
southern border for those seeking a better way of life for themselves
and their families, is more than sufficient evidence of what these
"camps" would look like.
A normal person, like you or I, would propose
solutions to mitigate the causes of homelessness.
Let me be clear. I've been homeless in my past.
I've lived in poverty.
I've lived on the streets and in shelters. I've had
to rely upon food benefits to survive. I've stood in long lines, being
prodded like sheep just to get a meal.
When I was homeless, I met former professional
baseball players, business owners, attorneys and others that had
fallen upon the misfortune, just as I had, of losing everything.
Homelessness can happen to anyone.
ANYONE!!!
Here are just a few of the more well-known
Americans who, at some point in their lives, fell on hard times and
ended up homeless.
- Margot Kidder, Lois Lane in Superman
- Martin Lawrence, Actor
- Tyler Perry, Producer and Actor
- Bobby Driscoll, Disney Child Star
- Danny Bonaduce, The Partridge Family
- Sly Stone, Sly & The Family Stone
- Jimmy Butler, NBA Player
- John Drew Barrymore
- Randy Quaid, Actor
- Ray Williams, NBA Player
That's a very, very short list of those people, who
for various reasons ended up homeless. They're still people and
they're still Americans.
According to a report released last year, nearly
51 million households
don't earn enough to afford a monthly budget that includes housing,
food, child care, health care, transportation and a cell phone. The study
was released by the United Way ALICE Project.
That's 43% of
households in the United States.
So, this president clearly does not have a well
thought out plan to mitigate the issue of poverty and the subsequent
effect of homelessness in America.
He reminds me of the Pharisees and Sadducees of the
Bible whose piety would never allow them to identify with common
folks, like you and I.
