Dear friend --

We hope this email finds you safe and healthy and that you had a good holiday. Celebrations looked a bit different this year as we continue to social distance to keep our loved ones and everyone around us safe, but we hope you were able to connect with loved ones virtually, and we look forward to a time when we can all be together safely. Our team is committed to sending updates so every Virginian knows what Mark Warner is working on in the Senate.

Here's the latest:

-- Mark joined Senator Tim Kaine in pushing Congress to take action to protect funding for critical black lung benefits for miners. [[link removed]] The funding that Warner and Kaine secured last year can be crucial to miners accessing the health care they need, and Mark is working hard to ensure this funding is extended.

-- Legislation that Mark introduced to combat money laundering and terrorist financing was included in this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). [[link removed]] Mark's bi-partisan Improving Laundering Laws and Increasing Comprehensive Information Tracking of Criminal Activity in Shell Holdings Act (ILLICIT CASH Act) aims to strengthen national security, increase corporate accountability, and aid law enforcement in tracking the financial activity of criminal groups.

-- Mark kept the pressure on the head of the General Services Administration (GSA) to allow the Biden administration to begin the transition process ahead of President-elect Biden's inauguration in January, stressing that delaying the transition was a risk to our national security. [[link removed]] The GSA has since allowed the transition to proceed.

-- Mark praised President-elect Biden's potential nominee for Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, saying Haines is "smart and capable" and would be well-equipped to begin repairing damage done to the agency during the Trump Administration. [[link removed]]

-- Mark called on IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma to fix a tax issue that prevents families from enrolling in the Affordable Care Act (ACA), ahead of the enrollment deadline on 12/15. [[link removed]] Warner fears that families will be denied because of delayed processing of 2019 tax returns, and is working to ensure that every Virginian -- and every American -- has access to the health care they need.

-- Mark worked with Senator Tim Kaine to introduce legislation to protect non-partisan civil servants with policy expertise. [[link removed]] This bill would block an October Executive Order that would make it easier for the Trump administration to fire these federal employees.

Be well,

Team Warner
