** The People vs. California
------------------------------------------------------------
New York Times ([link removed]) (9/17/19) reports: "The Trump administration is expected on Wednesday to formally revoke California’s authority to set auto emissions rules that are stricter than federal standards, taking a major step forward in its wide-ranging attack on government efforts to fight climate change...In a speech on Tuesday, Andrew Wheeler, the head of the E.P.A., said, 'We embrace federalism and the role of the states, but federalism does not mean that one state can dictate standards for the nation.'...Xavier Becerra, the attorney general of California, said the state intends to strike back with a lawsuit...'It’s clear that the president felt very strongly about this,' said Thomas J. Pyle, the president of the Institute for Energy Research, a think tank that supports fossil fuels, who advised Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign. 'The actions of California and the other auto companies probably
firmed up or hardened the president’s resolve on this issue, so here we go.'"

"We know from direct experience that fracking has been an unmitigated boon for [Pennsylvania], and we have no use for Warren’s fearmongering."

Greta and company are just the latest in a long history of busted doomsayers.

(9/18/19) blog: "Modern doomsayers have been predicting climate and environmental disaster since the 1960s. They continue to do so today. None of the apocalyptic predictions with due dates as of today have come true. What follows is a collection of notably wild predictions from notable people in government and science. More than merely spotlighting the failed predictions, this collection shows that the makers of failed apocalyptic predictions often are individuals holding respected positions in government and science. While such predictions have been and continue to be enthusiastically reported by a media eager for sensational headlines, the failures are typically not revisited."

And Democrats want this program nationwide.

(9/18/19) reports: "Chris Miles and his partners were ready to open their new seaside barbecue joint just in time for the summer season when they got stunning news: There would be no gas to fuel the fryers, griddles and stoves. National Grid, the utility that serves the Rockaway Beach section of Queens, refused to turn on natural gas service. It had declared a moratorium on new hookups after the state rejected an application for a new pipeline in May. Unless that pipeline or others were built, the utility said, there simply wouldn’t be enough gas to serve additional customers....The restaurateurs were casualties of a fight between utilities trying to meet expanding demand for gas and environmentalists, who say building new infrastructure to deliver cheap fossil fuels will worsen climate change and make states less likely to switch to less-polluting energy sources...While the fight plays out, apartment building developers, entrepreneurs and homebuyers say they can’t get the fuel they need
for heat, hot water and cooking."
To be fair it's not like his investments in renewables were going to make the millions needed to get to 1% in the polls.

(9/18/19) blog: "Billionaire and fledging presidential candidate Tom Steyer has billed himself as an environmentalist, advocating extreme policies that would undermine jobs, raise taxes and decimate America’s energy economy. But a new report is raising questions as to how committed Steyer is to his eco-credentials, and it threatens to tarnish his standing on the eco-left. Bloomberg is reporting that, according to recently disclosed financial documents, Steyer owns a stake in Direct Petroleum Exploration Inc, a 'company involved in oil production.' This 'could prove troublesome because the former hedge fund manager has put climate change at the center of his campaign and is among the 18 candidates who have sworn off contributions from fossil-fuel executives.' The hypocrisy is incredible."
Hello, is this the CDC? I'd like to report another outbreak of lunacy in California.

(9/18/19) reports: "The latest shot fired from California in its efforts to fight climate change came yesterday from the city of San Jose. A unanimous City Council vote approved Mayor Sam Liccardo's proposal to ban the use of natural gas in new single-family and low-rise multifamily homes. Beginning in 2020, new residential buildings in the country's 10th largest city — the biggest so far to consider such a ban as a way to reduce emissions — would instead be built to operate entirely on electric power...Builders who choose to use mixed fuel sources when constructing new homes would be subject to new stringent efficiency standards. A recent evaluation of California energy standards calculated this would incur additional costs of more than $5,000 per single-family home and more than $2,000 for each apartment in a multifamily home."
And in other news, the Earth is still round.

(9/17/19) blog: "A scientific review of more than two dozen studies aimed at linking oil and natural gas development to poor health found no direct association between fracking and illnesses, dealing another blow to activists trying to link the two together. The new report by the Health Effects Institute’s (HEI) Energy Research Committee examined 25 studies published from 2000 to 2018 that sought to establish an association with cases of cancer and poor perinatal, respiratory, and cardiovascular outcomes and other issues with unconventional oil and natural gas development (UOGD)...HEI’s companion reports and the previous analyses conducted by state health agencies and other organizations show that despite the headlines that research claiming to link fracking to health impacts may generate, actual findings are far from conclusive. Realistically, monitoring of air and water near well sites continue to find that the U.S. oil and natural gas industry is operating in a way that is protective of
public health, while powering the American economy."
