Letter from an Editor | November 28, 2020
Dear John,
Can you believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone already? In keeping with the season, let me say how very grateful I am to have this opportunity to speak with you, and so much of the Ms. community, each week in this newsletter. Ms. readers are some of the best, most passionate and most engaged readers out there—thank you for all of your support, whether you’re a brand-new reader or have been a subscriber since the very first issue, more than 48 years ago! We couldn’t do our work reporting, rebelling and truth-telling without you.
And now, just ahead of “Giving Tuesday,” I’d like to ask you to consider passing along a Ms. Membership to a friend you don’t know, by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Ms. Prison and Domestic Violence Shelter Program [[link removed]] .
Through this program, we send Ms. magazines to 5,096 federal, state and county prisoners across the country. That’s a fraction of the total, but it’s a number we’re proud of and we hope to increase with your support.
And through this program, we also send magazines to hundreds of domestic violence shelters. Across the nation, shelters have reported increasing numbers of women and their children showing up at their doors during the coronavirus pandemic. In response, we’ve done our best to increase the number of shelters we send Ms. to.
As Ms. Co-Founder Gloria Steinem says about our Prison and Domestic Violence Shelter Program:
“Women on the outside may bring support, facts, creativity, humor and a sense of community to women on the inside. We are the lucky ones. Pass some luck on.”
This holiday season, I hope you’ll consider buying an extra membership for a friend you don’t know [[link removed]] . Our team here at Ms. is very thankful for your support.
For equality,
Kathy Spillar
