Some government officials in Virginia have decided that their preferred ideology trumps your free speech and religious freedom.

And it poses a severe threat to churches, Christian schools, and other religious ministries in the state.

But that’s not all.

What’s happening in Virginia is a warning, John.

Many far-left politicians stand ready to exploit the heavy hand of government and dismantle the freedoms that you hold dear.

What’s happening in Virginia

On July 1, Virginia added “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” language to an existing state law. Under the law:

Churches, religious schools, and ministries cannot make employment decisions based on their employees’ actions—even if those actions contradict their religious beliefs.



Religious schools cannot limit admittance to those students and families who share their religious beliefs.



Ministries that offer sex-specific accommodations—such as an overnight women’s shelter—must allow males who identify as women to access female-only areas.



Churches and ministries must provide coverage for “sex-reassignment” procedures in their insurance plans or withdraw employee health-insurance benefits entirely.

And to top it all off, under Virginia’s law, churches, ministries, and Christian schools cannot even explain their beliefs on their own websites!

Your brothers and sisters in Virginia now face a choice, John. They can either abandon their biblical beliefs on marriage and human sexuality or face investigations, lawsuits, fines of up to $100,000 per violation, unlimited legal fees, and court orders forcing them to violate their convictions.

That’s not much of a choice, is it?

Thankfully, two Virginia churches, three Christian schools, and a pro-life ministry are not content to stand by and watch their rights disappear. With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, they’ve filed a lawsuit challenging the Virginia law.

John, it’s clear that government officials are getting bolder. We’re seeing unprecedented levels of government abuse of power across the nation, and we must fight it.
