Over the past year, the Green New
Deal has quickly entered the mainstream political discourse. Most
Americans believe we must act urgently to address climate change and
many presidential and congressional candidates are including “Green
New Deal” proposals in their platform.
The Green New Deal has been a key
element of the Green Party platform for nearly a decade and we are
excited for the renewed energy around this issue. We look forward to a
vigorous debate at the state local and national level about which
method is the best way to address the coming climate
catastrophe.
Baltimore City Co-Chair Publishes Blueprint for Maryland
Green New Deal
Owen Silverman Andrews, Co-Chair of
the Baltimore City Green Party published a blueprint for a Maryland
Green New Deal built on the Green Party’s four key
pillars:
Instead
of an isolated policy taxing major carbon emitters like the fossil
fuel industry, which threaten the very livability of our communities,
we must implement a Maryland Green New Deal (MDGND) based on four
guiding values: 100% renewable energy by 2032, an end to corporate
influence over our environmental policies, a curtailment of the U.S.
military’s enormous carbon footprint in our state, and a just
transition for working class folks, people of color, and other
marginalized communities.
The whole article is published at Maryland
Matters. The Maryland Green
Party is committed to offering its own Green New Deal as a key part of
our 2020 platform and we are excited to have this vision as a part of
that process.
