Hi John,

In the lead-up to the election, my campaign team and I sent you quite a few updates on our efforts to keep southeast Pennsylvania blue, but we didn't share much from my work in Washington. Today, I'm reaching out to share some legislative updates I've prioritized for equitable access to justice, mental health, gun safety, and voting rights.

Here are just a few policies I've been focusing on during my time in D.C.:

• The Mental Health Justice Act is aimed to reduce the unnecessary violence people with mental illness and disabilities face when 911 is called due to a mental health crisis. Rather than sending police to answer these calls, first responders trained to handle mental health-related crises will be deployed to the scenes. Last month in Philadelphia, Walter Wallace Jr. was fatally shot by a police officer who was not trained to assist Wallace and his family -- and he is the reason I am fighting tirelessly to pass this critical piece of legislation that will keep our communities safe and protected.

• I introduced the Stop Online Fraudulent Sales of Firearms Act and am working hard to keep my 'F Rating' with the NRA. Right now, online gun sellers using digital marketplaces, including social media, have found loopholes in tech companies’ terms of service that otherwise seem strict on firearm sales. With this bill, we'll crack down on fraudulent gun sales and make our communities safer. So far, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Everytown for Gun Safety have backed my bill -- and it's been introduced in the Senate.

• The Dropbox Access Act will make it easier for every American to vote in their community by requiring that counties have at the minimum, one ballot dropbox per 15,000 people of voting age. I am proud to have introduced a bill that will ensure every eligible voter has access to a secure ballot dropbox so they can make their voice heard. We know that our democracy is stronger when more people vote, and I will continue fighting to remove barriers to voting and to implement protections for voters.

With the 116th Congress coming to a close and a new administration headed to the White House, I look forward to the progress we will make on a number of issues including but not limited to our COVID response, racial equity, environmental justice, economic opportunity, and transparency in government.

Working people, families, and children will always be at the forefront of my work in Washington, and I know we'll make great progress in the months to come.

Thank you for being part of this critical work.

Best,
Mary Gay
