A global pandemic. An economic crisis. Life in lockdown. This year’s been a lesson for all of us in dealing with uncertainty. But it’s also shown how strong communities can be when they come together. That’s why we need as many of us as possible to shape Positive Money’s strategy for the next five years.

To reimagine a fairer money and banking system in these challenging times, we need a plan that’s bold, ambitious and resilient - with the ideas and support of the whole Positive Money community behind it. So that no matter what 2021 throws at us, together, we’ll be ready to push for the big changes our economy needs.

So far, almost 1,200 supporters have had their say. And on Monday morning the staff team will read through all the survey responses. John, please will you join us and share your feedback now?

Positive Money’s achieved a lot in the last ten years, but the next decade brings huge challenges and opportunities. [1] To steer through that uncertainty, and make sure our message for an economy that works for everyone rings loud and clear, we need to know that together we’re making the right choices.

Here’s the first email we sent you about this a couple of weeks ago:

Dear John,

2020 marks ten years since Positive Money started as a people-powered organisation - set up to challenge the power of the big banks and make our money system work for society and our planet. We’ve achieved a lot, but a decade on, we’re living in a very different world and a critical time.

So we’re taking a step back to rethink our strategy - to make sure that together we have the most impact possible.

Our people-powered movement is one of the things that makes Positive Money unique and powerful. We make our best decisions when we make them together. John, please will you take our survey now to have your say on the next ten years? It’ll only take about 10 minutes.

Covid-19 has shown how unfair and undemocratic our economy is. The government has used billions to bail out corporations, banks and polluters, while thousands of people have lost their jobs and been forced to use food banks. At the same time, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak is denying the truth about how public spending really works. [1]

In this context, Positive Money’s work has never been more important. We need to keep exposing the truth and push ideas which truly make our system much fairer. 

Throughout the autumn, we’ve been running evaluations and brainstorms with our staff team, board of directors and new economy experts. Now we need to hear from supporters like you to make sure that together, we’re making the right choices for Positive Money in the next ten years.

In January, over 1000 supporters did our survey and helped Positive Money have some huge breakthroughs this year (getting big commitments from the Bank of England to go green is just one example!). It's proof that when we make decisions together, we get on the right track.
