Wisconsin Attorney Dean Strang became a household name when his representation of Steven Avery was featured in the Netflix miniseries Making A Murderer. Since then, he has been hard at work on his recent book, Keep the Wretches in Order: America's Biggest Mass Trial, the Rise of the Justice Department, and the Fall of the IWW. In it, he details the fascinating story of the largest mass trial in American History against labor activists during World War II. To prevent work stoppages during the war, the Department of Justice embarked on a sweeping effort – replacing the gunmen and state militias that would break strikes in the past, with lawyers.
Come hear our conversation about this new book and the development of the modern Justice Department as it shifted strategies to outlaw radical threats to capital and corporations.
This event will be held at Kramerbooks on Tuesday, July 31. Doors open at 6 PM.
