John,

Each Thanksgiving, my father insists that we circle the dinner table, each taking stock of all that we are thankful for.

This year, my parents, my sisters, and our families will join via Zoom to celebrate, and I suspect that we will follow the usual tradition, so in the spirit of gratitude, I would like to share my list with you all.

I am thankful for the technology that will ensure my family continues our annual tradition, much to the chagrin of a few family members!

I am thankful for the health of my family and friends, and acutely aware of how hard this Thanksgiving will be for those who have lost a loved one to the pandemic or who are struggling because of job loss or a faltering business.

I am thankful for the sacrifices and commitment of our nurses, doctors, healthcare workers, public health officials, and scientists, as well as those participating in the COVID-19 vaccine trials.

I am thankful for our police, firefighters, first responders, and teachers as they continue to ensure the safety and learning of our communities.

I am thankful for the frontline workers, grocery store clerks, and truck drivers who kept our supply chains open and continue to ensure we can have a holiday.

I am thankful for the food banks and safety-net organizations that are lifesaving during this pandemic, and I am grateful to our neighbors who support them with their time or treasure.

Lastly, I am thankful for the responsibility of serving the people of our district in Congress. As so many are hurting across our country, I have been working daily for a negotiated COVID-19 deal. In my meetings, calls, and Zooms with Senators and House members, I am singularly focused on ensuring the relief our neighbors, our local businesses, and economy need. I know a deal cannot come fast enough, and I am thankful for the ability to be fighting for it on behalf of my constituents.
