Dear John, Today is Thanksgiving, and I just want to take a moment to give thanks to you for making a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ people and their families. I've been thinking a lot about Jeanne Manford, the founder of PFLAG, whose 100th birthday is on Dec. 4th, next week. When she spoke out in full support of her gay son back in 1972, she started a movement. Today, with over 400+ PFLAG Chapters and 250,000 supporters across the country -- and countless more who have been helped by PFLAG in our nearly 50-year history -- I know Jeanne would be so proud of all you helped make possible for LGBTQ+ people and their families. I know this Thanksgiving is particularly hard for us all, as we continue to stay safe and avoid large gatherings due to the pandemic. That’s why it’s more important than ever to stay connected today -- through virtual meetings, by phone, or on social media. Check in with your LGBTQ+ loved ones and friends -- and remember that PFLAG National’s support resources are available for free for anyone who needs them. I hope your holiday is filled with love, gratitude, and hope for a better future for all our families. Happy Thanksgiving, Kathy Godwin President, PFLAG National P.S. Please remember PFLAG National on Giving Tuesday, which is next week on December 1. Keep an eye on your inbox and on PFLAG National’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to learn ways you can help. | |
