John,
This Thanksgiving is unlike any
other. We are asking people to do things differently and to avoid
gathering with family and friends. This is hard for everyone, and it’s
certainly not how I want to spend this day. But by following this
important public health guidance, you are all showing who we really
are: people who care and put the health of one another
first.
So please,
stay safe this holiday.
It’s been a hard year for all of
us. At the beginning of 2020, no one could have imagined what lay
before us.
I’m incredibly proud — but not
surprised — that San Franciscans rose to the challenge, showing real
leadership during this pandemic. And I know that in the months ahead
we will continue to take care of one another. I’m thankful for our
essential workers, our City workers, non-profit workers and all the
volunteers who are keeping this City going. And I am thankful for all
of you, the people of San Francisco, for what you’ve done and what I
know you will continue to do.
After you enjoy your Thanksgiving
meal, and begin to think about your holiday shopping, I hope you will
consider supporting our local
businesses, finding ways to help neighbors in
need, and continue celebrating the holidays in a
healthy way. This holiday
season our choices matter.
As we near the end of 2020, I’m
incredibly hopeful for what’s to come. The next few months will be
challenging, but exciting as we inaugurate a new President and
Vice-President who believe in data, science, and the common good. I’m
hopeful for the many potential vaccines on the horizon, for our
children to return to school safely, and for our city to get back on
the road to recovery.
We are in this together, and we
will get through this together.
Have a safe and joyful
Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Mayor London Breed
