MESSAGE FROM CATHERINE
Dear John,
Earlier this year when we first started sheltering in place, my
daughter took out her markers and wrote on pieces of paper, “We’re All
In This Together.” She and my son proudly taped those to our front
windows conveying a message of hope and unity.
Yesterday, President-Elect Joe Biden addressed the nation in a
Thanksgiving Eve address urging unity, empathy, and love. He stated,
“We don’t talk much about love in our politics. The public arena is
too loud, too angry, too heated. To love our neighbors as ourselves is
a radical act, yet it’s what we are called to do. And we must try, for
only in trying, only in listening, only in seeing ourselves bound
together in what Dr. King called a ‘mutual garment of destiny’ can we
rise above our divisions and truly heal.”
This truly resonated with me. I am grateful for the opportunity to
keep trying to work with everyone to address the issues our city
faces, to listen to all those with different points of view, and to
focus on what unites us instead of what divides us.
Most of all, I am grateful that I get to do this with you and for
the support I’ve received over the years that has allowed me to
continue to be of service. Thank you!
I know this year has been so tough and focusing on gratitude has
helped me through. In what has been a time of despair, I have so much
hope that we will pull through this together and for that, I am truly
grateful.
From the bottom of my heart, have a very happy and safe
Thanksgiving.
Warm regards,
Catherine
