Dear Friend,
Today we recognize 400 years of occupation of Indigenous lands. Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island, including Wampanoag, have faced a deeply violent colonization and occupation in the years since Europeans arrived at Plymouth Rock.
*The powerful deliberately hide the reality that Indigenous Peoples' resistance continues even to this day.* Grassroots International, on the other hand, celebrates, funds, and allies ourselves with this global Indigenous resistance. That means building close working relationships with the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) here, as well as partnering with Indigenous movements like COPINH in Honduras and SER Mixe in Oaxaca.
These movements, and others, courageously defend their communities territories, their culture, and right relationships between people and the planet. But they face incredible odds - including violence - just for standing up for their rights. *Your ongoing solidarity matters.*
*Would you consider giving to our Solidarity Match campaign [ [link removed] ], in honor of 400 years of Indigenous resistance? Every gift received between now and December 31, up to $20,000, will be matched - doubling your solidarity and impact.*
Movements of people, for their homes and the planet, from Turtle Island to West Africa, are standing up to decades and centuries of injustice. Join me in celebrating and resourcing their resistance, for the victories to come.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Chung-Wha Hong
Executive Director
