Hi Friend,
Thanksgiving, for many, is a time for reflection. As I look back on my first six months as UNICEF USA President and CEO, I want to express my gratitude for your support in what has been a uniquely difficult year for us all. And as much as we all want this Thanksgiving to be a reprieve, many of us may be spending this holiday season separated from loved ones. All the more reason to remind you of how appreciative I’ve been to have you in the UNICEF USA community.
Despite these ongoing challenges, this is also a time that brings out the best in many people, including you, Friend. I'm very grateful for your continued support. Your actions have helped protect children and families worldwide. I feel fortunate to be a part of such a compassionate and powerful community.
In the spirit of thanks, I'd like us to reflect on some of the vital impacts we've made combatting the pandemic:
- We've reached more than 73.2 million people with soap, water and hygiene supplies.
- We've treated nearly 4 million children for severe acute malnutrition.
- We’ve supported 229 million children with distance/home-based learning.
- And we've given 66 million children, parents and caregivers community-based mental health and psychosocial support.
During this time of uncertainty, I have hope — because of you, Friend. As the leading vaccine procurer globally, we are preparing for a vaccine distribution like the world has never seen. UNICEF and supporters will be critical to responding, recovering and rebuilding in the years ahead.
Friend, together, we can realize our shared vision of a world that upholds the rights of all children and helps every child thrive.
Let’s count our blessings and reflect on all that we have achieved. When we work together, we're able to put the rights of children first.
Wishing you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Nyenhuis
President and CEO
