Fighting for Families Like Ours Hello John, We are pleased to share with you the seventh Personally Speaking blog in our 12-part series of staff stories. This week’s blog was written by Legislative and Policy Counsel Sabah Muhammad. For Sabah, this work is personal. She shares in her blog the heavy burden she felt when her brother was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. The “reality and stigma associated with severe mental illness” caused her to hide his diagnosis from others in her life. These days, however, as a member of our advocacy team, “I no longer hide that I have a brother diagnosed with SMI, and as a result, I feel as if a great weight has lifted. As a result, a stigma-free family dialogue surrounding mental illness has opened up.” We are so grateful to have someone as compassionate and dedicated as Sabah on our staff, fighting for other families affected by severe mental illness. And we are grateful to you for your ongoing support of our mission. This Thanksgiving, please considering donating to the Treatment Advocacy Center so that we can keep up the fight. Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving from the entire staff of the Treatment Advocacy Center.
