Hi John,

In September 1937, the Labour Government officially opened the first state house in Miramar. It was one of thousands of state houses built by Labour, offering more New Zealanders safe, stable places to live and raise their families.

More than 80 years on, Labour is still working hard to make sure all New Zealanders have a warm, dry home — and today, our Government is building record levels of state and public houses.

In the past two years, we've built 2,206 state houses:

Here’s how that compares to National’s record on housing:

We’re proud to be helping more families into homes, and improving housing in New Zealand. Whether it’s building thousands of state houses, stopping overseas speculators buying up Kiwi homes, or helping hundreds of homeless people find a place to live with wrap-around support, we’re getting on with the job.

The housing crisis developed over decades and won’t be solved overnight – but building 2,206 state houses in two years is a good start. Will you help us spread the news by sharing our graphic on Facebook? <[link removed]>

Thanks,
