It’s no secret that Thanksgiving is different this year. There may be fewer seats at your table, and we are all missing family and friends that usually join our cheer.

This feeling isn’t new to me— I have had an empty seat at my holiday table ever since I lost my mom to gun violence in 2003. I’ve had a bit of time to adjust to a different kind of holiday season without my mom, and it’s made me even more thankful for those who are around me now.

My mom, Nancy, was always a stickler for thank-you notes: Before I could write, she asked that I draw a thank you picture. Later, I remember sitting at the dining room table after every birthday or holiday, with a list in front of me, and cards at the ready. And that’s what I wanted to send to you today.

I am so thankful that you are with us.

Together, we’ve been able to accomplish a lot this year: Brady led a massive campaign to increase voting access in communities impacted by gun violence. We launched a new phase of our End Family Fire work, designed to prevent firearm suicide. Through their work in courts across the country, Brady Legal brought justice to victims of gun violence.

And John , we are only going to grow from here. With gun violence prevention champions in the White House, Brady is ready to hit the ground running and save lives as soon as the Biden-Harris administration takes office.

We truly could not have done any of this without you. Thank you.
