Hi there,
Trump might be on his way out the door, but his harsh and discriminatory legacy on immigration is only just beginning. This month, the Trump administration unveiled a new U.S. citizenship test, which advocates have called “more difficult than previous versions in that it is longer, more nuanced and, in some questions, has a tinge of politics.”
According to The Washington Post, the new test doubles the number of oral questions applicants must answer correctly in order to pass. New questions about the importance of the Electoral College -- as well as language making it clear that only citizens can have their voices heard in government -- were also added.
Doug Rand, a former immigration policy adviser to President Obama, called the new test “an obvious attempt to throw one more obstacle in front of immigrants legally eligible for US citizenship.” We couldn’t agree more -- but we want to know where you stand. Please, tell us now:
Should the bar to become a US citizen be even higher?
