We've been through a great deal this year. On the campaign trail, I've heard from Georgians who have struggled -- from families who are sick, out of a job, and being forced to choose between the next meal for their kids or a trip to the doctor.
The truth is that our leaders failed us big time. Donald Trump let us down by failing to confront and control this pandemic, and Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R) let us down by protecting her own interests -- and stock portfolio -- without lifting a finger to help everyday Georgians.
But here's another truth, a better truth: There are brighter days ahead for America.
Long before I became the senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s spiritual home, I grew up with 11 brothers and sisters in Kayton Homes public housing. Kids like me from the projects were never the likeliest candidates to go to college –- or run for the U.S. Senate. But with hard work and support, I achieved my dreams.
But what about the dreams of everyday Americans today? Their dreams are more and more unlikely to become reality -- even the basics, like health care or a good wage or a solid place to call home, are out of reach for far too many.
Meanwhile, the GOP continues to attack our fundamental rights, divide us on the basis of race and religion, and put the interests of the wealthy few above everyone else. I plan to bring the spirit of service to Washington and govern for all Americans, not just those at the top. And that's why this Senate race couldn't be more important. But I need your help.
The reality is that all eyes are on us.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
-- Raphael Warnock, U.S. Senate candidate, Georgia
