It's a bittersweet Thanksgiving. But, as we often do, the American people are stepping up to show our better natures, and to remind one another that our sense of compassion, community, and kindness is one of our nation's greatest strengths.

Here's what I'm thankful for this season: after four years of sustained assault on our democracy, our health, and our communities, the best of the American spirit is coming back strong.

That means I'm thankful for the voters who spent hours waiting in line to make sure their voices were heard.

I'm thankful for the election workers who spent hours - and in some cases, days - to ensure that our democracy would survive and that every vote was counted.

I'm thankful for the essential workers who show up every day to ensure our families have access to the food and supplies we need.

I'm thankful to the nurses, aides, and doctors who risk their own health to make sure their patients get the care they need, even as COVID-19 sends people to the hospital in record numbers.

There's a lot of work to do, and the coming months are going to be difficult. But as I take a moment to appreciate what our country can do when we stand together, I know - beyond any doubt - that we can build a better tomorrow. And for that, I am thankful.

Have a safe and healthy holiday,

Ron
