November 2020 My Fellow Coloradans, Happy Thanksgiving! A most unusual year, but hopefully we all have things to be thankful for in our lives, and this is a fundamentally a holiday of humble gratitude. This time of year presents us with an opportunity to express our gratitude for all that we have and cherish. This Thanksgiving, I am most thankful for the giving spirit of Coloradans: Our front line healthcare leaders working to save the lives of the COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized across our state, our everyday heroes delivering groceries and providing important services, our firefighters, and everyone who has had to make the difficult, but wise decision not to visit loved ones in-person this year. I want to remind you to remain vigilant in the challenging weeks ahead confronting this pandemic, and ask that you take necessary steps to protect yourself and those who are cherished in your life. We are at a critical moment in our fight against COVID-19: 1 in 41 Coloradans are contagious with this deadly virus, with similar or higher rates across much of the country, and it is simply more dangerous to gather outside of your household than it has ever been. That’s why we will continue to urge Coloradans do three key things: 1. Do not gather with people you do not live with. The best way to keep yourself and your family safe is to celebrate Thanksgiving with those who live in your household only. 2. Wear a mask around others when outside of your home. 3. Stay six feet away from others. There is hope on the horizon for access to game-changing vaccines over the next few months. Now our challenge is to keep our neighbors and loved ones safe to get to that phase where we can take those exciting steps forward together. We usually have 14-20 people and extended family for Thanksgiving, but this year will just be the four of us. When faced with uncertainty, we can take comfort in knowing that the spirit of giving brings us closer together, no matter our physical distance apart. Thank you for your gestures of love to protect yourselves and your neighbors. I wish you all a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
