Here's why it's so important to join the fight against gerrymandering and voter suppression:

• The effects of redistricting will reverberate for generations. Maps are only drawn once a decade, which means we will have to live with the 2021 maps for 10 years. To put that in perspective, today's maps were drawn back in 2011 -- the same year Game of Thrones first premiered.
• Left unchecked, Republicans will manipulate maps to rig elections in their favor. Back in 2011, the GOP had unbridled power to draw more than half of our congressional districts. They took that opportunity to draw maps that allowed them to win a majority of elections, even when they only won a minority of votes.
• States are pushing the limits on voter suppression. Back in 2013, SCOTUS struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act that required states with a history of voter suppression to receive preclearance from the federal government before enacting new voting restrictions. Ever since, states (many with gerrymandered legislatures) have been pushing the limits to restrict voting by enacting voter ID laws, closing polling places, and purging voter rolls.
