A Lot to be Thankful For

Image

As we begin closing out a wild year with holidays, we think it's important here at CDP HQ to not only reflect on the important work you and Democrats all across the country accomplished during this important election, but to remember the number of people who are hurting and who need help.

As President-elect Joe Biden pointed out numerous times on the trail, countless families are seeing empty chairs where loved ones they lost to COVID-19 once sat. People have lost their jobs, have had to shutter their businesses, and can't afford to put food on their tables or buy gifts this holiday season. This shows us that we may have won an election, but there is so much more work to do.

Feeling Extra Generous this Thanksgiving Week? Here's some suggestions of charities you can help volunteer for or support!

The Epworth Foundation hosts Feed-A-Family every year in honor of “Daddy" Bruce Randolph and his tradition of feeding people who are hungry on Thanksgiving. Click here to read more.

For the second year in a row, chef Tajahi Cooke and his wife, Danielle Cooke, are cooking up Thanksgiving meals for those in need. The Madsgiving event honors the kind of collaboration Tajahi Cooke’s grandmother, Ms. Betty, always promoted. Click here to read more.

An urban farming initiative based on providing locally grown food for people experiencing food insecurity, The Table will also be cooking Thanksgiving dinners. Families can purchase meals for themselves — knowing that the funds will support programs about healthy food and nutrition — or they can buy meals for community members who are struggling. For more than 128 years, the Denver Rescue Mission has prioritized serving those experiencing homelessness and addiction by providing food and shelter and various rehabilitation and transitional programs. For Thanksgiving, the mission has always hosted an annual turkey drive, and this year they’re at it again, raising funds and sourcing 15,000 turkeys for those in need. Click here to read more. A special thank you to our local Democratic activists, officers, and elected officials who have stepped up in a big way to help those struggling this holiday season!

All Eyes on Georgia

Georgia Senate run-off candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff

While not as many states flipped GOP Senate seats like we did here in Colorado, the contest for the majority in the U.S. Senate isn't over! Democratic candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are headed to January 5, 2021 run-off elections!

How can we help??

It's all hands on deck, and the entire country will be watching Georgia! Here's immediate ways you can get involved to help Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff win!

  • Call Georgia Voters Virtual Phone Bank (Hosted by Warnock for Georgia)
  • Run Your Ossoff Daily Phone Banks (Hosted by Jon Ossoff for Senate)
  • General Volunteering with the Georgia Dems

Whoever wins these two seats could determine the course of Joe Biden's presidency. If the GOP wins, Mitch McConnell keeps his majority, and he'll have the power he needs to obstruct every policy idea Dems want to pass.

But, if Dems win these seats in Georgia? Legislation like a health care public option, voting rights protections, combating climate change, raising the minimum wage to $15, and so much more are possible!

But we have to win these two seats. What do you say?

Reps. Jason Crow And Joe Neguse Both Got First Term PhD Level Crash Courses In Governing

From CPR

The freshman class of the 116th Congress — America’s most diverse class in years — was quickly thrown into the deep end of the legislative pool. It has been a baptism of fire, from the government shutdown they were sworn in under to a once in a lifetime pandemic.

And in between? Russian election interference, the Mueller Report, Iran and the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump among other things. It’s been quite a lively two years in office for Democratic Reps. Jason Crow and Joe Neguse.
