Building a more caring future for all of us
Dear John,
In this difficult moment, I invite you to do a PIES check-in before you read the rest of this email. PIES is from the political healers framework. It stands for Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual. A PIES check-in is a practice that allows us to better listen to ourselves and each other. When I’m feeling scattered or stressed, a PIES check-in gets me to name how I’m doing and allows me make better decisions.

Now that you’ve done the PIES check-in, how are you? How is your heart today? I’m feeling anxious. The surge in COVID cases makes me nervous. The sun setting at 4:30 p.m. doesn’t help. Reading Britton’s post on our blog is giving me the energy I need to get through this week. It also reminds me of why I organize, which she explains so well: “fighting for a future you may not get to see, but that you know is possible.”
Amidst immense grief, that vision of what is possible keeps me going.

This Thanksgiving, I won’t be sharing a meal with my family. It makes me sad; but I know that we must follow the science and guidelines around keeping a safe and healthy community. We must care for ourselves and each other. That means practicing gratitude and compassion for one another, taking the time to learn each other’s history, and rising together in solidarity.
Take time this week to understand whose land you are on and how you plan to be in solidarity with Indigenous people year-round. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and how grateful you are for them. Say thanks to yourself. You've made it this far, and we are here, ready to move forward together.

We all deserve to live joyful, fulfilling lives. That includes you! Check out the digital care package our team put together to support people immediately after the election. I’m still finding all the resources in there helpful, and I think you will, too.

Each of us has a role to play in keeping our communities safe and healthy – and in creating the joyful and fulfilling future we all deserve. To help shape our advocacy and organizing work moving forward, fill out our COVID survey. Your input will inform our conversations with elected officials, partner organizations, and each other. And hearing from you will help us identify our communities' most urgent needs, guiding us as we carve out our path to a more just and caring future for all of us.
Here’s the survey. Thank you for filling it out! I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
