Democrat,

With Thanksgiving approaching, most of us are getting excited about eating turkey and all the trimmings with family and friends. But New Jersey Republicans have something different on the menu -- the GOP is serving DUCK this year, as in “DUCKING” the questions they don’t want to answer about their complicity in President Trump’s refusal to concede the election.

As The Record reports, the vast majority of New Jersey Republican leaders won’t say that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election and that it’s time for President Trump to concede and the country to move forward:

As President Donald Trump has refused to concede to President-elect Joe Biden — the president has instead spun baseless conspiracy theories about widespread voter fraud — most New Jersey Republican officials have stayed silent.

And most are staying tight-lipped even as Trump grudgingly began accepting his fate on Monday by authorizing the presidential transition to begin while vowing on Twitter to continue his fight.

The Trenton bureau of the USA TODAY Network Atlantic Group contacted all 47 elected Republicans and the GOP's top gubernatorial contenders, including every Republican member of the Legislature. Only 12 replied to our inquiries. Among those who didn't respond were Sen. Thomas H. Kean Jr., the top Republican in the Legislature, one of two members of Congress and two likely candidates for governor in 2021.

They won’t acknowledge the truth because they would rather placate their radical conservative base than live in reality. It’s just another reason why New Jersey Republicans are so far out of step with New Jersey. They pretend they’re moderates. They pretend they’re different. But they’re no different than Trump and his radicals. They’re out of touch with New Jersey and out of touch with reality.

We hope you’re getting ready for a smaller, socially distant turkey day tomorrow. And we hope our Republican colleagues enjoy their Thanksgiving Duck.
