My name is Juan Carlos -- I’m Pete for America’s new Latinx Engagement Director.

As a first generation Mexican-American, raised in Chicago, I can relate firsthand to the challenges that our community faces. Challenges such as access to quality health care, affordable education, disproportionate levels of pollution in our communities, and our broken immigration system.

Now, more than ever, it is crucial for all Americans to become civically engaged in our political process and rise above the current political divide to get things done -- that is why I have joined Team Pete.

I’m excited to be starting on the campaign as we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. It is a time of pride, celebration, and historical reflection for our community. It is a time to acknowledge the contributions of our people in the building and shaping of our nation.

At a time when the Hispanic and Latinx communities are continuously targeted and vilified by the current administration, it is important to recognize that, together, we can bring about the necessary change in Washington, DC. But we can’t just go back to politics as usual either, where nothing got done. We need new leadership that has ideas bold enough to meet our challenges and big enough to bring people together to turn those ideas into reality.

Mayor Pete has continuously provided a bold agenda that aims to unify our country. As Mayor of South Bend, Pete understands the value of diversity and how it has helped grow and revitalize his home city. As president, he would carry that same vision of inclusion and tolerance across America.
