Dear John,
This year has been a trying one for all of us. Our communities have been devastated by the health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. And our Black and Latinx communities continue to be the main targets of police violence.
But our communities are also resilient. We are proud of the efforts to push Austin City Council to allocate millions of dollars in direct cash relief for Austinites suffering due to the economic pains caused by COVID-19. And we are deeply proud of our community standing up for Black lives and demanding that money in our city’s budget be reallocated from policing and towards health, equity, and housing measures for communities of color.
As the new co-Executive Directors of Grassroots Leadership, we are excited to lead an organization that values the lived experience of directly impacted people in our work organizing for transformational change.
This weekend, we are thankful for our families, our friends, and for our community that has given us so much. We couldn’t do it without you.
